What is your History with the Overton Parade?
I started on the parade team back in the days of Overton Carnvial in the 1980’s and have been involved in arranging every parade since.
Tell us about your favourite entries over the years?
It’s tricky to pick just one, ODS always do a great job as do other community groups, but I always remember when Dennis Rowles (formally of the Bathroom Shop) and his friend Mary sat in a bath with a fully working shower as part of the parade, it was great. Also the Bathing Belles who all dressed in 1920’s swimming costumes and danced along to Hello Dolly.
What can people expect from this year’s parade?
We have classic cars, marching bands and community groups, Singing and dancing and just fun for everyone but WE NEED MORE to make this parde bigger and better than before.
The parade will travel from Sapley lane, down Winchester Street, over the traffic lights, it will turn left at the church and end at the ORC where we have live music from local band Nine Five Dot one, a disco for the children thanks to Ali Davies from Pop Tots and the bar will be open.
This year’s parade will take place on the Saturday afternoon rather than the Sunday. It all kick off at 4pm.
How can people get involved?
They can download the parade entry form on our documents page.
